Hello everyone! Have you ever hear of Zürich Ethnographic Museum? I accidentally saw it when I was exploring the old botanical garden today. If you are interested in foreign culture or people, I think this place would be of your interest. It’s located in the old botanical garden, right in the city centre (next to Bahnhofstrasse) and they change the exhibitions from time to time, which gives more choices to different people of different taste. The staff are very friendly and it’s free.

The other good thing is that they have english translation for most of the important artworks, so if you don’t speak german, you can still understand the essential works. And the stories behind the artworks are the key to understand foreign people and their culture.
There are currently 3 exhibitions at this moment:
- Making a living from old shoes: Tanzanian street vendors as urban experts
- Kalamkari – Myth and Cloth from India
- Mola – Crafting Beauty and Layering the World – in Panama
This is not a big museum and the ground floor is the first exhibition, first floor the second and second floor the third. You can put your bags or clothes on -1 floor, where the WC is also located. I feel that after exploring the 3 exhibitions, I see a world I’ve never seen before. For the first exhibition, there are multi-media and interactive devices to assist you. On the second exhibition – “Kalamkari – Myth and Cloth from India”, there are even telescope and projector helping you to look at the details of the painting. It’s the same for the third exhibition, Mola – Crafting Beauty and Layering the World – in Panama. There are TV, projector, speakers etc., trying to create a real setting and atmosphere for you.
